Our oil-free, size-specific IRON AGGREGATE is used for a variety of applications: Customers are using our IRON AGGREGATE for in-situ treatment of environmental sites with groundwater containing chlorinated organic compounds, removal of inorganic contaminants such as chromium, arsenic and selenium from drinking water, and various industrial and chemical applications.

We have provided the majority of IRON AGGREGATE to sites around the world; many over 2,000 Net Tons, a few over 3,500 Net Tons, and we have recently completed the largest site to date of over 10,000 Net Tons. Our record of delivering orders on time and within specifications has made us the supplier of choice for this rapidly growing technology. We only provide the IRON, but our customers are very pleased with it, as they report it to have superior effectiveness at breaking down trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE), trichloroethane (TCA), and vinyl chloride (VC), which represent some of the most toxic volatile organic compounds (VOC's) contaminating groundwater.
In the past, cleanup often consisted of pumping the groundwater and treating it above ground then returning it to the environment. This pump-and-treat method is expensive, slow, and high-maintenance. Similarly, there are many convoluted high-tech approaches using forced air or steam to flush the pollutants out where they can be brought up and treated at the surface.
In contrast, a patented process, using our IRON AGGREGATE, developed by our customer, EnviroMetal Technologies, Inc. (ETI), provides a passive remediation technique utilizing in-situ permeable reactive barriers ( PRBs ). After installation they require little maintenance. The natural flow of groundwater does all the work. After the groundwater flow of a contaminated site is determined, a trench is dug across the contaminant plume width and filled with either IRON AGGREGATE alone or a mix of IRON AGGREGATE and coarse sand. By designing the wall to allow sufficient contact time with the IRON AGGREGATE, the contaminants are eliminated as the water passes through the treatment material. ETI's results indicate this process produces non-toxic end-products; it chemically destroys the contaminants.
This product, designed to meet standards developed using this patented technology, has been tested by ETI and has demonstrated its effectiveness in laboratory testing and in over 100 full-scale treatment systems. CONNELLY-GPM, INC. produces the IRON AGGREGATE used in this, the most promising remediation system available for such contaminated sites.

In light of the new regulations reducing the allowable chromium and arsenic levels in drinking water, interest in the application of CONNELLY-GPM’S IRON AGGREGATE for removal of arsenic, selenium, chromium, and other inorganic contaminants is growing faster than ever. As with organic treatment, it is a passive process requiring no pumping or outside energy.
